Partnership with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at the University of Virginia

I turned to hiking as a way to heal myself, but it was just one of many steps on my way to recovery.  The John Muir Trail helped me find the strength to seek out therapy and continue that journey.  On this trip, I hope to help support others taking their Next Steps in healing.

Caps at u.va.

CAPS is a fantastic service for students at the University of Virginia that provides short-term counseling to students for free. Unfortunately, due to demand, students are limited in the number of sessions that they can use with CAPS, and often need to transition to long-term providers in the Charlottesville area.  This transition can be difficult and costly as students search for a therapist who fits their needs best; personally, I met with four therapists before finding one who was a good match.

I am raising funds for CAPS to pay for students' first sessions with therapists in Charlottesville to help ease this transition,           to help students take their Next Steps.

In taking on this project, my goals are twofold: I want to make a direct impact on students' lives at the University that I care deeply about, but I also hope to broaden my impact by reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and therapy. You can support me by doing either (or both) of the options below.

Donate

Your donation will support students who are already on the path toward healing. Please give as little or as much as you can to help U.Va. students facing incredibly difficult circumstances find the professional support they need.

Talk about it

If you or someone you care about is facing a particularly difficult time, encourage them to seek professional help.  Much to my regret, I was stubborn and waited over a year before seeking therapy. Be an advocate for those you care about by opening up the dialogue about how to heal. If you don't know where to turn, I am happy to talk to you about my own journey.
